It is with great sadness that we report the death of John Reddy KCSG on Friday 26th February 2016.
John Reddy was a great public servant throughout his life. He exercised great service in local government and voluntary agencies, not least in being Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil and Chairman of Merthyr Tydfil Football Club. Everything he did was an expression of his dedication and commitment to his local community and the wider community of the people of Wales.
The Catholic Church in Wales and the people of the Archdiocese of Cardiff have good reason to be grateful for his strong faith and humble witness to the service of the Gospel. His service as Diocesan Trustee and Chair of the Diocesan Investment Committee as well as his dedication to his own parish are just some examples of his generosity of heart and spirit. His passion for justice and compassion for those who suffer was second to none. For these gifts so willingly shared, and for his exemplary witness and action on behalf of the Church, he was created Knight Commander of the Order of St. Gregory by Pope Francis. We pray for the repose of his soul and offer our condolences to his beloved wife Dot, his son Anthony and grandson Luke.
His body will be received into St Mary’s at 7.30pm on Sunday 13th March and his Requiem Mass takes place on Monday 14th March 2016 at 12.00 noon. It is expected many will wish to attend, therefore parking will be available at the football ground.
